Anyone looking at the shape of the island of São Nicolau almost immediately imagines the possibility of traveling across the coast between Tarrafal and Preguiça. There is a trail, used almost exclusively by fishermen, to join these two locations. It is a trail of great scenic beauty, but subject to conditions related to the tide and maritime agitation and the aridity of the area, making it very difficult and dangerous. There are several places where it is necessary to go down to rolled pebble beaches and climb up cliffs again, making the trail very difficult. This trail is not marked on the ground but knowing that some might want to do it, a GPS file is available for guidance, thus considering a “virtual” trail.
Virtual trails are routes that are not marked on the ground. Only recommended for experienced practitioners, they can be done only under specific conditions due to their extreme difficulty.
